I worked for a company that did the same - they were #1 and got comfy/lax and were bought up by another bigger company that retired the majority of their software portfolio. When I run xscreensaver-demo, I get a message informing me that the xscreensaver daemon has not been started.
Did it TRY to partner with MS? Nothing I've read indicates that.

MS wouldn't have run into as many issues if it hadn't made IE in such a way that it couldn't be uninstalled.īut I think Netscape played into it's own demise in hubris with 90% share of the market. If xscreensaver has been launched from xdm(1) before anyone has logged in, you will need to kill and then restart the xscreensaver daemon after you have logged. But I don't recall these other companies crying foul when MS included software that did the same. It turns off as soon as there is any mouse or keyboard activity. I don't agree with it as Apple is just as bad if not worse than MS. On LL2.0 I used to simply hit those keys & GLSlideshow or whatever was set in Xscreensaver would start & password was required to get back to Desktop or whatever. xscreensaver-display host:display.screen -verbose -no-capture-stderr -no-splash DESCRIPTION The xscreensaver program waits until the keyboard and mouse have been idle for a period, and then runs a graphics demo chosen at random.
